Power BI End-to-End Delivery Framework

Home · Projects · Delivery Frameworks · Power BI End-to-End

Overview

The Power BI End-to-End Delivery Framework is a reusable delivery structure for taking an analytics initiative from an identified business problem through requirements, data preparation, semantic modelling, reporting, validation, deployment and operational support.

It is designed to connect business analysis, data analytics and Power BI delivery within one controlled lifecycle rather than treating requirements, technical implementation, testing and documentation as separate activities.

The framework provides:

Explore the Framework

1 — End-to-End Process

View the complete high-level lifecycle from defining the business problem through to a live and supported Power BI solution.

The public process shows the full sequence of delivery stages while the detailed editable process models remain private.

2 — Selected Subprocesses

Explore representative detailed subprocesses showing how high-level delivery stages are decomposed into controlled tasks, decisions, validation points and hand-offs.

The selected examples cover business analysis, test design, Power Query, semantic modelling, report implementation and end-to-end validation.

3 — Document & Artefact Framework

Explore the controlled document architecture supporting the delivery lifecycle.

The framework uses a coordinated set of business, data, design, implementation, validation, security, deployment and operational artefacts rather than relying on disconnected project documentation.

4 — Delivery Traceability

See how process activities, document sections, requirements, design decisions, implementation and validation evidence are connected.

This includes explicit Input and Output associations at task and document-section level while keeping detailed associations separate from the BPMN process diagrams.

5 — Framework Application

See how the reusable framework can be applied to a practical Power BI analytics project while allowing the actual implementation to remain proportionate to the business problem, data landscape and delivery context.

Framework Structure

At a high level, the framework connects:

Business Problem & Requirements

↓

Data Requirements, Source Design & Preparation

↓

Semantic-Model Design & Implementation

↓

Report Design & Implementation

↓

Validation & Remediation

↓

Deployment & Release

↓

Operational Support & Monitoring

Controlled documentation and traceability operate across the lifecycle rather than being added only at the end.

Design Principles

The framework is based on several practical principles:

Business Analysis and Data Analytics

Although the framework covers the complete Power BI delivery lifecycle, its primary purpose within this portfolio is to demonstrate the connection between Business Analysis and Data Analytics.

It shows how business problems and stakeholder needs can be translated into:

The technical breadth shown across data extraction, transformation, modelling, Power BI implementation, security and operations demonstrates the level of technical understanding needed to work effectively with developers, data engineers, architects and other specialists across an end-to-end analytics solution.

It is not intended to represent specialist expertise in every engineering or development discipline.

Reusable but Adaptable

The framework provides a reusable structure rather than requiring every project to use the same technical solution or identical level of documentation.

A project should apply the relevant activities and controls according to:

This allows the framework to provide consistency without creating unnecessary process or documentation.

Portfolio Evidence Boundary

The complete working framework contains considerably more material than is published within this portfolio.

The public version deliberately provides enough evidence to demonstrate the depth, structure and practical application of the approach while protecting the reusable source material.

Public portfolio evidence includes:
